What is an IP address (IP's)?
Every machine connected to the internet has a unique number allocated to it. This number is the IP address. When you disconnect and reconnect you may get a new one, but it depends on who you use to connect to the internet.Everything online you do is sent to your IP address. When you request a webpage, the web server sends the page data back to your IP address and your browser displays the web page. Since the activity of all IP's are usually logged somewhere (often the ISP is forced too by law) nothing you do on the internet is truly anonymous.
Sometimes all your internet traffic is routed through another machine called a proxy. In which case the IP shown is not yours but the proxy's. Standards compliant proxies should indicate the originating IP address. If this is detected to be the case then the proxy's IP address may be listed in brackets behind your IP.
